# Your first full-body moment

[![vlcsnap-2024-10-30-02h02m50s343.png](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/vlcsnap-2024-10-30-02h02m50s343.png)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/vlcsnap-2024-10-30-02h02m50s343.png)

Follow these four pages in order. Your goal is simple: **take a step and turn in front of a VRChat mirror, and see your avatar's body follow you**.

Before starting, have your eight-Tracker kit, a Windows PC, a headset connected to SteamVR and shown as tracked there, access to a **2.4 GHz Wi-Fi** network, and enough clear floor space to stand and take a small step. SteamVR being open by itself is not enough: Excap needs the live headset connection for its SteamVR body-tracking path. Step 1 shows where to install Steam, SteamVR and VRChat if this PC does not have them yet. Keep the PC where you can see Excap Studio while wearing the Trackers.

1. [Check the kit and install Excap Studio](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/1-kit-and-installation). You will finish when the Dongle and eight Tracker cards appear in **Device**.
2. [Wear and assign all eight Trackers](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/2-wear-and-bind). You will finish when the eight online cards match where you wear them.
3. [Connect the headset camera and check its marker lights](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/3-camera-and-marker-lights). You will finish when the camera says **Wi-Fi Online** and Camera View shows the front marker groups.
4. [Calibrate and enter VRChat](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/4-calibrate-and-vrchat). You will finish when your avatar follows a small step and turn without losing the body for a minute.

If one check fails, use the recovery steps on that page. You can reach the first VRChat body-following moment with IMU tracking while you fix a camera Wi-Fi issue; that path has no camera correction yet. Record exactly which check stopped you so the team can improve the software and guide.

**This is a local review draft.** The screenshots of connected devices and camera points use scripted example states. The full path still needs a trial with the shipped kit and a first-time user before it can claim a 15-minute setup or independent completion rate.

# 1. Kit and installation

Lay the kit on a table. The current eight-Tracker set includes eight Trackers, the Excap Link 2.4G Dongle, a camera and its mount/cable, a charger and charging cable, stickers, and the new straps: two long, two medium, and four short. Your shipped Trackers use the v2 shell that fits these straps.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-user-provided-packin">[![User-provided packing list: eight Trackers, camera, Dongle and new v2-compatible straps.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-051-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-051-webp.webp)<figcaption>User-provided packing list: eight Trackers, camera, Dongle and new v2-compatible straps. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## Get SteamVR and VRChat ready

If you already play VRChat through SteamVR on this PC, go to the next section. Otherwise, install [Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/about/), then install [SteamVR](https://store.steampowered.com/app/250820/SteamVR/) and [VRChat](https://store.steampowered.com/app/438100/VRChat/) from Steam. Connect and wake your headset, start SteamVR, and wait until SteamVR shows the headset as tracked. **Do not continue with SteamVR output while the headset still says Not Ready or Disconnected:** SteamVR can be open without a live headset, and Excap cannot send the full-body tracking data into that SteamVR session until the headset is connected and tracked. Then leave VRChat closed while you install Excap.

## Install Excap Studio

1. Open the [official Excap Studio downloads page](https://www.elecholic.tech/resource/downloads/). Choose the **Windows Installer**.
2. Run the installer. On **Installation options**, leave **2.4G Dongle driver** and **Excap SteamVR driver** selected, then click **Install**. The installer may request administrator access and close Steam/SteamVR to install its driver.
3. Open **Excap Studio** after installation.

You do not need to download and run a second driver installer for first setup. The downloads website may show an older separate driver link; use the **2.4G Dongle driver** included in Excap Studio for this route.

**If Excap SteamVR driver says “SteamVR not detected” and its box cannot be selected:** finish installing SteamVR first. Then open **Setting → About → SteamVR Driver** in Excap Studio and use its **Install** action. This is a recovery step for installation order, not a separate download.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-illustrative-install">[![Illustrative installer edit: 2.4G Dongle driver and Excap SteamVR driver selected. Replace with a capture from the shipping installer before production. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## Connect the receiver and Trackers

1. Plug the supplied **Excap Link 2.4G Dongle** into the PC.
2. Open **Device** in Excap Studio. Check the 2.4G Dongle status icon.
3. Turn on each Tracker with a short press of its button. Wait for eight Tracker cards to appear.
4. Pick up one Tracker and use **Blink** in its detail panel to match the card to the physical Tracker. Add its body-part sticker after you confirm its assignment in step 3.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-example-device-page-">[![Example Device page showing eight scripted Tracker cards and the selected Tracker details; not proof of live hardware.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-024-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-024-webp.webp)<figcaption>Example Device page showing eight scripted Tracker cards and the selected Tracker details; not proof of live hardware. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>**Ready when:** the Dongle is online and all eight physical Trackers have matching cards in **Device**. The screenshot is an example with scripted Tracker data; check your own screen.

The yellow **Disconnected** text at the top of Excap Studio is the **data forwarding mode**. It can still say Disconnected at this step even when the Dongle and eight Tracker cards are online. You will select **SteamVR** there in step 4.

**If the Dongle is missing:** reconnect it and open **Setting → About → 2.4G Dongle Driver** to check the installed driver. **If fewer than eight Tracker cards appear:** charge and turn on the missing Tracker, then check the Dongle. Use [Wire Pair Trackers](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/pair-trackers) only if a Tracker is unpaired or on a different channel.

[![image.png](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/image.png)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/image.png)

# 2. Wear and bind

Every Tracker must stay snug while you move. Wear each one with its **power button facing up**. For the headset camera route, put the marker Trackers on the **front** of your body so the camera can see the waist/hip and both lower legs.

1. Put one Tracker at the **chest**, one at **Waist or Hip**, one on each **thigh**, one on each **lower leg**, and one on each **foot**.
2. Fasten each new v2 strap so its Tracker does not slide when you take a step. Keep every Tracker's **power button facing up**. The photo below shows the correct direction on a worn v2 Tracker.
3. Open **Device**. Right-click an empty part of the page and choose **Auto Joint Binding**.
4. Set **Wearing Layout** to **Standard Full Body · 8 · Recommended**. Set **Torso Position** to **Waist** or **Hip** to match where you wore it.
5. Compare each **New Binding** row with the Tracker on your body. Click **Apply Joint Bindings** only when all eight match.
6. Add the matching stickers after checking each Tracker with **Blink**.
7. Check that all eight cards still show **Online** after fastening the straps. Camera marker lights are checked on the next page, after the camera is connected.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-annotated-real-v2-sh">[![Annotated real v2 shell and new strap worn on the body; the power button is facing up.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-056-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-056-webp.webp)<figcaption>Annotated real v2 shell and new strap worn on the body; the power button is facing up. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure><figure class="" id="bkmrk-auto-joint-binding-l">[![Auto Joint Binding layout choices with Standard Full Body · 8 · Recommended selected; fixture Tracker state is synthetic.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-043-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-043-webp.webp)<figcaption>Auto Joint Binding layout choices with Standard Full Body · 8 · Recommended selected; fixture Tracker state is synthetic. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure><figure class="" id="bkmrk-auto-joint-binding-p">[![Auto Joint Binding preview table for eight fixture Trackers; example assignments only.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-042-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-042-webp.webp)<figcaption>Auto Joint Binding preview table for eight fixture Trackers; example assignments only. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>**Ready when:** eight **Online** cards in **Device** match where you wear the Trackers, every button faces up, and no Tracker slides during a small step. The screenshot below is a real worn Tracker example; the other screenshots use scripted example devices.

**If a label is wrong:** open the [binding guide](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/device-shortcuts-and-joint-binding) and correct it before continuing. If a Tracker slides or its button points sideways/down, fix the strap first. In **Setting → Placement**, keep the direction equal to the way the Tracker is actually worn. Changing placement later means repeating both pose calibrations.

# 3. Camera and marker lights

The Trackers must already be worn and assigned before this page. The supplied camera connects to **2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only** in Headset Mode.

## Give the camera its network details

1. Connect the camera to the PC with its USB data cable.
2. Open **Setting → General → Camera**. Wait for **Cable Connected**.
3. Choose **Headset Mode** from **Mode**.
4. Choose your router's **2.4 GHz** network and enter its password. Check the band yourself: Excap can currently show and accept 5 / 6 GHz networks even though this camera cannot use them.
5. Click **Configure WiFi**. Wait for **Camera WiFi settings sent**.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-example-camera-setti">[![Example camera settings form with blank credentials and a scripted Cable Connected status; no real hardware or network is shown.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-031-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-031-webp.webp)<figcaption>Example camera settings form with blank credentials and a scripted Cable Connected status; no real hardware or network is shown. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>**Ready when:** the settings are sent. This confirms the USB write, not the later wireless connection.

## Mount and power the camera

1. Disconnect the temporary PC setup cable.
2. Attach the camera to the headset with the supplied mount. Connect one end of its cable to the camera.
3. Plug the other end into the USB adapter attached to the headset, as shown in the photo. Make sure the headset and adapter are powered, then wait for **Wi-Fi Online** in Excap Studio.
4. Open **RP1 → Camera View** and aim the camera toward the front of your body.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-current-headset-came">[![Current headset camera mount and its actual power cable connection.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-020-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-020-webp.webp)<figcaption>Current headset camera mount and its actual power cable connection. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure><figure class="" id="bkmrk-current-headset-came-1">[![Current headset camera mounted on the headset with the camera cable plugged into the headset-connected USB adapter.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-055-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-055-webp.webp)<figcaption>Current headset camera mounted on the headset with the camera cable plugged into the headset-connected USB adapter. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>The first photo shows the camera-side mount. The second photo shows the cable running to the USB adapter attached to the headset. Follow the same cable from the camera to the adapter; do not use the temporary PC setup cable for this step.

**Ready when:** Excap Studio says **Wi-Fi Online**. You do not need to see body-marker points yet.

## Check the normal HMD Mode light change

Open **RP1 → Camera View** and aim the camera at the front of your body. When HMD Mode connects successfully, the Tracker used for **Waist or Hip** and both **lower-leg Trackers** show a bright green light. The other Tracker lights turn off. This is expected: it does **not** mean the Chest, thigh or foot Trackers disconnected. Their cards should remain **Online** in **Device**.

The eight-point layout has one torso position, either **Waist** or **Hip**. It does not use Waist and Hip at the same time. The example below uses Waist; if your binding says Hip, read that green torso light as Hip.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-annotated-hmd-mode-e">[![Annotated HMD Mode example: one Waist or Hip torso Tracker and both lower-leg Trackers are green; Chest, thighs and feet are off.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-059-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-059-webp.webp)<figcaption>Annotated HMD Mode example: one Waist or Hip torso Tracker and both lower-leg Trackers are green; Chest, thighs and feet are off. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>If the camera disconnects, the other Tracker lights return. That is also expected. First check **Wi-Fi Online**, then check that the green Waist/Hip and two lower-leg lights appear again. If a Tracker card is actually offline in **Device**, fix that hardware connection separately.

**If Wi-Fi Online does not appear:** check camera power, the password and the 2.4 GHz band. Make sure the PC and camera can reach each other on the local network. If this remains unresolved, continue to the body-following check using Tracker IMU data, and return to the [full camera setup](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/headset-mode-camera-setup) afterward. This fallback confirms body tracking without camera correction.

# 4. Calibrate and VRChat

Connect and put on your headset, then start SteamVR. Wait until SteamVR shows the headset as tracked; just opening SteamVR does not connect the headset. Keep the eight Trackers powered on and assigned to the right body parts. If the headset is not live in SteamVR, Excap cannot send this full-body tracking data into SteamVR or VRChat.

## Get Excap ready

1. At the top of Excap Studio, choose **SteamVR** as the data forwarding mode. This selects the destination; it does not connect the headset for you.
2. Open **RP1**. Check that the headset is tracked. In the **Mocap** dropdown on RP1, choose **Standard Mocap** for the supplied eight-Tracker layout.
3. Check **Player Height**. Type your real height in centimeters, or use **Auto Measure** after the headset is tracking in SteamVR.
4. If you have your own humanoid **VRM, GLB, FBX, or ZIP** model file, drag it onto the RP1 preview. Excap scans its skeleton and shows the model preview. You can continue with the built-in preview if you do not have a model file yet.

<figure class="figure-small" id="bkmrk-annotated-rp1-exampl">[![Annotated RP1 example showing SteamVR data mode, HMD tracked, height and Standard Mocap selector; illustrative edit, not a live capture.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-057-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-057-webp.webp)<figcaption>Annotated RP1 example showing SteamVR data mode, HMD tracked, height and Standard Mocap selector; illustrative edit, not a live capture. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>This is an annotated layout example for the four checks above. The SteamVR, HMD tracked and Standard Mocap labels are edited guide annotations; confirm the live state in your own RP1 screen.

**Ready when:** SteamVR is selected, the headset is tracked, and the body preview is visible in RP1. An imported model improves proportion matching, but is optional for the first body-following check.

## Copy the two pose pictures in order

1. Click **Natural Standing** on RP1. Face forward, stand upright, and relax both arms at your sides like the picture. Hold still for the three-second count. Wait for **Natural Standing Pose completed**.

<figure class="figure-pose" id="bkmrk-exact-natural-standi">[![Exact Natural Standing pose picture from the current Excap Studio resources.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-052-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-052-webp.webp)<figcaption>Exact Natural Standing pose picture from the current Excap Studio resources. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>2. Click **Skiing Pose**. Bend your knees and lean forward. Bend your elbows as if holding ski poles, with your upper arms back and forearms forward, like the picture. Hold still for the three-second count. Wait for **Skiing Pose completed**.

<figure class="figure-pose" id="bkmrk-exact-skiing-pose-pi">[![Exact Skiing Pose picture from current Excap Studio resources; mechanically enlarged for reading.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-053-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-053-webp.webp)<figcaption>Exact Skiing Pose picture from current Excap Studio resources; mechanically enlarged for reading. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>**If Skiing Pose says a joint tilted too little:** bend that part more and repeat Skiing Pose. If Natural Standing failed, check that all required Trackers are online and correctly bound, then start the two poses again in order.

## Enter VRChat and check the first success

1. Launch VRChat through your working SteamVR setup. Enter a world with a mirror and clear floor space. If you cannot find a mirror yet, look down at your avatar's legs for a quick first check.
2. Open VRChat's **Quick Menu** and choose **Calibrate FBT**. Check that the body tracking points match the parts where you wear the Trackers.
3. Stand upright and face forward. Press both controller **Interact** buttons, usually both triggers, at the same time to finish VRChat calibration.
4. Look at the mirror. Take a small step, turn slowly, and bend your knees. Check that your avatar's waist and legs follow you for one minute without a sustained loss of tracking.

<figure class="figure-small" id="bkmrk-four-panel-first-suc">[![Four-panel first-success sequence: SteamVR ready, SteamVR view, VRChat Quick Menu Calibrate, then avatar body following.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-058-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-058-webp.webp)<figcaption>Four-panel first-success sequence: SteamVR ready, SteamVR view, VRChat Quick Menu Calibrate, then avatar body following. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>Use the four panels in order: SteamVR ready → SteamVR view → VRChat **Calibrate** → move in front of a mirror and watch the avatar follow.

VRChat's [official Full-Body Tracking guide](https://docs.vrchat.com/docs/full-body-tracking) describes its current Quick Menu calibration. The exact menu appearance can change with VRChat updates; check the current client before publication.

**If there is no Calibrate FBT option:** first check SteamVR shows the headset as tracked, then check Excap is sending to SteamVR and your Trackers are online and calibrated. If the headset is disconnected, connect or wake it and wait for SteamVR tracking before trying again. If the option appears but the avatar does not follow, check the eight body-part assignments in **Device**, then repeat VRChat calibration. The [first-use recovery map](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/if-your-first-setup-stops) gives a short path for each stopping point.

# Settings and recovery

**Use this chapter when you need to configure, maintain, or recover EXCAP.** These pages explain Tracker controls, binding, pairing, firmware, magnetometer calibration, haptics, placement, camera modes, and problem reports.

[Start with Tracker controls and status →](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/tracker-controls-and-status)

# Tracker controls and status

Open **Device** to see Trackers connected through the USB dongle. This page explains the settings for one Tracker and the controls above the device list.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-example-device-page-">[![Example Device page showing eight scripted Tracker cards and the selected Tracker details; not proof of live hardware.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/5EZimg-024-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/5EZimg-024-webp.webp)<figcaption>Example Device page showing eight scripted Tracker cards and the selected Tracker details; not proof of live hardware. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## Read one Tracker's details

1. Find its card in **Device**. The card shows its body-part label and online state.
2. Click the card to open its detail panel.
3. Read **ID**, **Define**, **Status**, **Magnetometer**, **RGB**, **Magnetometer strength** when available, and **Firmware**. Battery and signal are also shown with the card.

If its body-part label says **Null**, Excap has not assigned a body part yet. That does not mean the Tracker is broken. Use **Auto Joint Binding** from the Device right-click menu and choose the eight-Tracker layout.

The **ID** is a hardware ID. The current page has no custom nickname field. **Change ID** only appears when Excap detects duplicate IDs; it requires a wired USB maintenance flow. You do not need it for normal setup.

## Choose a color for one Tracker

1. Click a Tracker card.
2. In the detail panel, click its color button in the **RGB** row.
3. Click or drag in the large color area. Use the small hue slider to choose the color family.
4. Release to apply the selected color.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-example-individual-t">[![Example individual Tracker RGB picker over a scripted Device screen; not proof of live hardware.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-035-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-035-webp.webp)<figcaption>Example individual Tracker RGB picker over a scripted Device screen; not proof of live hardware. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>The color appears on the connected Tracker. Excap saves the color to tracker hardware in the background. Keep the USB dongle connected while you change settings.

## Set or turn off every Tracker light

Use the color button at the top of Device to set the same color across Trackers. The light-bulb button next to it turns all Tracker lights off. These controls change LED color; they do not unassign or power off a Tracker.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-example-all-tracker-">[![Example all-Tracker RGB picker over a scripted Device screen; not proof of live hardware.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-025-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-025-webp.webp)<figcaption>Example all-Tracker RGB picker over a scripted Device screen; not proof of live hardware. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>When a connected camera uses the lights in Headset Mode, Waist or Hip and both lower-leg lights may turn green and other lights may turn off. The Tracker cards remain the source for checking online status. Excap restores your configured colors when the camera visual mode stops.

## Identify a Tracker with Blink

Click a card, then click **Blink** in its detail panel. The light flashes so you can match that card to the Tracker in your hand. Blink is unavailable when that Tracker is offline.

## See all the device controls

The buttons above Device also include the camera state, 2.4G dongle state, RGB controls and **Power Off Trackers**. Use **Power Off Trackers** when you finish a session. It sends a power-off signal to the connected Trackers as a group. It does not delete their saved records.

For a picture guide to the **Device** right-click menu, eight-Tracker binding, and RP1 manual binding, see [Device shortcuts and joint binding](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/device-shortcuts-and-joint-binding).

The app also has rotating **You know what?** tips. Turn **Tips** on in **Setting → General**. Tips appear by themselves for a short time; treat them as reminders, not as a setup checklist.

The app also has rotating **You know what?** tips. Turn **Tips** on in **Setting → General**. Tips appear by themselves for a short time; treat them as reminders, not as a setup checklist.

### Current interface facts to remember

- Change the **Define** body-part assignment in the selected Tracker detail or in the wearing-plan dialog.
- The current Device page shows a hardware ID; it does not rename each Tracker.
- There is no manual **Save All Settings** button. Excap saves LED and magnetometer hardware settings automatically when the receiver is available; an offline receiver can delay synchronization.

For the body-relative facing direction, see [Tracker placement](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/tracker-placement). For magnetometer calibration, see [Magnetometer calibration](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/magnetometer-calibration). For vibration, see [Haptics and vibration](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/haptics-and-vibration).

# Device shortcuts and joint binding

Use this page when you want Excap to assign body parts to the Trackers, or when you need one of the extra Device-page shortcuts.

## Open the right-click menu

1. Open **Device**.
2. Right-click an open area of the page.
3. Choose the shortcut you need.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-example-device-scree">[![Example Device screenshot with an orange outline highlighting the native right-click menu. The screenshot state is synthetic; the original image is preserved.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-041-highlighted-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-041-highlighted-webp.webp)<figcaption>Example Device screenshot with an orange outline highlighting the native right-click menu. The screenshot state is synthetic; the original image is preserved. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## Assign the supplied eight-Tracker set

**Auto Joint Binding** opens a preview. It does not apply the new assignments until you click **Apply Joint Bindings**.

1. In the right-click menu, choose **Auto Joint Binding**.
2. In **Wearing Layout**, choose **Standard Full Body · 8 · Recommended**.
3. In **Torso Position**, choose **Waist** or **Hip**, whichever matches the Tracker you wear at your waist/hip. The eight-point layout has one torso position, not both.
4. Read the **Current Binding** and **New Binding** columns. If a new assignment looks wrong, stop and check the layout and torso choice.
5. Leave **Reassign by Tracker ID** unchecked unless you specifically want assignments made in Tracker ID order. Compatible current assignments are kept by default.
6. When the preview matches where you wear each Tracker, click **Apply Joint Bindings**.

The standard eight positions are **Chest**, one **Waist or Hip**, both thighs, both lower legs, and both feet. The preview shows the Tracker IDs and the body part each one will receive.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-auto-joint-binding-l">[![Auto Joint Binding layout choices with Standard Full Body · 8 · Recommended selected; fixture Tracker state is synthetic.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/hviimg-043-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/hviimg-043-webp.webp)<figcaption>Auto Joint Binding layout choices with Standard Full Body · 8 · Recommended selected; fixture Tracker state is synthetic. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure><figure class="" id="bkmrk-auto-joint-binding-p">[![Auto Joint Binding preview table for eight fixture Trackers; example assignments only.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/ThHimg-042-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/ThHimg-042-webp.webp)<figcaption>Auto Joint Binding preview table for eight fixture Trackers; example assignments only. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## What each shortcut does

- **Auto Joint Binding** opens the wearing-layout preview described above.
- **Clear Joint Bindings** removes body-part assignments but keeps the Trackers in the Device list. Use it only when you intend to bind them again.
- **Sort by Tracker ID** changes the order of Tracker cards on the screen. It does not change their assignments.
- **Wire Pair Trackers** opens the USB pairing flow. Follow its prompts and connect one Tracker at a time.
- **Clean All Trackers** clears the Trackers' saved records from Excap's Device list. It does not turn off the physical Trackers. Leave it alone during normal setup.

**Clear Joint Bindings** and **Clean All Trackers** sound similar but do different things. If you only want to redo the body-part map, use **Clear Joint Bindings**.

## Bind one Tracker at a time on RP1

1. Open **RP1** and turn on **Joint Axes**.
2. Click the joint you want on the 3D body.
3. Double-tap the physical Tracker you want to assign.
4. Wait for the “bound” message before choosing another joint.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-annotated-rp1-manual">[![Annotated RP1 manual binding example: turn Joint Axes on, click a joint, then double-tap the physical Tracker.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-060-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-060-webp.webp)<figcaption>Annotated RP1 manual binding example: turn Joint Axes on, click a joint, then double-tap the physical Tracker. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>The picture shows the order on RP1. The green joint is the joint you clicked; it is not a Tracker that appeared inside the model. Keep the RP1 **Mocap** choice on the RP1 page as well.

Choose the motion algorithm from the **Mocap** combobox on **RP1**, not in Settings. After changing it, read the wearing picture and hint. Some options need a live headset or controllers.

### Issue found while exploring

The menu gives **Clear Joint Bindings** and **Clean All Trackers** similar-looking names without explaining their different effects. A first-time user could clear more data than intended. See the UX issue list.

# Pair Trackers

If all your Trackers already appear online in **Device**, skip this page. Pairing is for a new or replacement Tracker, or for fixing a Tracker that needs a different channel.

Keep the Excap Link 2.4G Dongle connected to the PC during pairing. The app connects each Tracker to the PC by USB, one at a time.

## Choose the right pairing mode

1. Open **Device** and right-click an empty part of the page.
2. Choose **Wire Pair Trackers**.
3. Read the three choices before pressing **Next**.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-wire-pair-mode-selec">[![Wire Pair mode selection; Re-pair All is the app default. Scripted UI, no pairing performed.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-044-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-044-webp.webp)<figcaption>Wire Pair mode selection; Re-pair All is the app default. Scripted UI, no pairing performed. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>- **Add New** keeps existing Trackers and their IDs. Choose this when adding or replacing Trackers. It uses the Dongle's current channel and assigns an unused ID from 1 to 14.
- **Channel Only** keeps every Tracker ID and changes the channel. Use it only when you intend to move the Dongle and the Trackers you connect through this flow to another channel. Trackers left on another channel will not connect.
- **Re-pair All** clears all Tracker records from Excap and assigns IDs again starting at 1. Use this only when you mean to rebuild the whole set. You must pair every Tracker again, bind them again, and redo pose calibration afterward.

**For a normal new or replacement Tracker, choose Add New.** Re-pair All is selected when the dialog first opens, so check the choice before continuing.

## Pick a channel when asked

**Re-pair All** and **Channel Only** open the channel step. Choose **Player Channel A**, **B**, or **C**. The selected channel is used by the Dongle and each Tracker you pair. Trackers left on a different channel will not connect.

**Add New** skips this step and uses the Dongle's current channel.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-wire-pair-channel-se">[![Wire Pair channel selection example for Re-pair All. 1. Click **Next** to start scanning.
2. Connect one Tracker to the PC with its USB data cable. Keep the Dongle connected too.
3. Wait for the app to read the Tracker ID and channel.
4. Check the ID shown by the app. With **Add New**, leave the recommended unused ID selected unless you have a reason to choose another free ID.
5. Click **Pair this tracker** and wait for the success message.
6. Unplug that Tracker, then click **Pair next tracker** to connect another one. Repeat until every Tracker you intend to pair is listed.
7. Click **Finish &amp; Exit**, review the summary, then click **Done**.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-add-new-pairing-mode">[![Add New pairing mode selected. Scripted UI, no USB Tracker connected.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-046-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-046-webp.webp)<figcaption>Add New pairing mode selected. Scripted UI, no USB Tracker connected. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>If no Tracker is found within two minutes, check that the Dongle is online, connect the Tracker directly to the PC with a data-capable USB cable, and click **Retry**. If pairing fails while another program is using the USB serial port, close that program and try again.

After pairing, return to **Device** and check that the Tracker appears online. If you used **Re-pair All**, run [Auto Joint Binding](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/device-shortcuts-and-joint-binding) again and redo **Natural Standing** and **Skiing Pose**.

# Update firmware

Firmware updates use a direct USB connection. Update one device at a time and keep it connected until the app says the update is complete.

## Check the firmware versions

1. Open **Setting → About**.
2. Find the **Firmware** card. It shows the current and latest versions and whether connected devices are behind.
3. Click **Check Firmware Updates** and wait for the version check to finish.
4. Click **Update Firmware**.

## Update a Tracker

1. In the upgrade window, choose **Tracker Firmware**.
2. Connect the Tracker you want to update directly to the PC with a USB data cable. The app reads its Tracker ID and selects its COM port.
3. Check that the selected port names the Tracker ID you intend to update. If it does not appear, click **Refresh** after connecting it.
4. Click **Start Upgrade**.
5. Keep the Tracker connected. Do not unplug it or disconnect the USB cable while the progress screen is open.
6. When the app says **Upgrade Complete!**, disconnect and reconnect the Tracker, as the message instructs.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-tracker-firmware-tar">[![Tracker firmware target with a scripted COM port and Tracker ID; no device is connected.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-047-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-047-webp.webp)<figcaption>Tracker firmware target with a scripted COM port and Tracker ID; no device is connected. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure><figure class="" id="bkmrk-example-firmware-pro">[![Example firmware progress state. ## Update the 2.4G Dongle

1. In the upgrade window, choose **2.4G Dongle Firmware**.
2. Keep the Excap Link 2.4G Dongle connected to the PC. The app selects its COM port automatically.
3. If it is not listed, click **Refresh** and check the USB connection.
4. Click **Start Upgrade**.
5. Keep the Dongle connected until **Upgrade Complete!** appears.
6. Disconnect and reconnect the Dongle.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-2.4g-dongle-firmware">[![2.4G Dongle firmware target with a scripted COM port; no device is connected.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-050-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-050-webp.webp)<figcaption>2.4G Dongle firmware target with a scripted COM port; no device is connected. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## If the port is missing or busy

- For a Tracker update, connect the Tracker directly to the PC, then click **Refresh**. For a Dongle update, check that the Excap Link Dongle is connected.
- Close any other program that may be using the USB serial port, such as a serial monitor, Arduino IDE, or another Excap instance. Then click **Refresh**.
- If the port still does not appear, open **Setting → About** and check **2.4G Dongle Driver** under **Local environment check**. The driver is included with Excap; you do not need a separate driver download. If the app says it is not detected, use its **Install** action, then click **Refresh** in the firmware window.
- If the error says no firmware URL is available, click **Check Firmware Updates** again. If it still fails, stop and contact support with the error message.

The update window disables interruption while firmware is being written. Wait for the result. If the update fails, reconnect the device and retry only after the app shows the device port again.

# Magnetometer calibration

Open **Setting → General**. These switches control device-wide settings. The Tracker detail page has a separate button for calibrating one Tracker's magnetometer.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-magnetometer-setting">[![Magnetometer setting card, cropped contiguously from the native Settings screenshot.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-039-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-039-webp.webp)<figcaption>Magnetometer setting card, cropped contiguously from the native Settings screenshot. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## Magnetometer switch

The **Magnetometer** switch enables or disables the magnetometer for the Tracker set. Its state is sent through the USB dongle; if the receiver is offline, the setting will sync when the receiver reconnects.

The interface warns that magnetometer can cause more drift. Do not turn it on as a routine first-run fix. Only change it if you are following a tested setup instruction or troubleshooting step.

## Calibrate one Tracker's magnetometer

1. In **Device**, click the Tracker you need to calibrate.
2. Check that the Tracker is online and its **Magnetometer** status is **On**. The calibration button stays disabled if the system or this Tracker's magnetometer is off.
3. Click **Magnet Calibration**.
4. Click the **?** help icon and copy the figure-eight movement with the Tracker.
5. Keep moving the Tracker until the sphere fills or the counter reaches **300/300**. Sampling stops automatically at 300 points.
6. Click **Confirm** to close the calibration window.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-example-magnet-calib">[![Example Magnet Calibration dialog at 000/300; no samples collected or successful calibration implied.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-033-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-033-webp.webp)<figcaption>Example Magnet Calibration dialog at 000/300; no samples collected or successful calibration implied. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure><figure class="" id="bkmrk-figure-eight-calibra">[![Figure-eight calibration help as shown in the app.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-034-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-034-webp.webp)<figcaption>Figure-eight calibration help as shown in the app. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>**If the counter does not move:** keep the Tracker online and magnetometer On. Reopen the calibration window and follow the displayed figure eight. The number counts collected points, not seconds.

### Issues found while exploring

- One switch controls all Trackers' magnetometers, while calibration opens for a selected Tracker. The interface does not make this difference clear, and it warns that enabling the magnetometer can add drift.
- The figure-eight directions are inside a small help popover. A new user may miss the instructions before starting.

For vibration controls, see [Haptics and vibration](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/haptics-and-vibration).

# Haptics and vibration

Open **Setting → General** and find **Haptic**. Haptics control Tracker vibration. They are separate from magnetometer settings and calibration.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-haptic-and-hold-to-v">[![Haptic and Hold to Vibrate controls, cropped contiguously from the native Settings screenshot.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-040-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-040-webp.webp)<figcaption>Haptic and Hold to Vibrate controls, cropped contiguously from the native Settings screenshot. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## Test the Tracker vibration

1. Make sure the USB dongle is connected and the Trackers are online.
2. In **Setting → General**, turn **Haptic** on.
3. Press and hold **Hold to Vibrate**.
4. Check that the connected Trackers vibrate while you hold the button.
5. Release the button to stop the test.

This test vibrates the connected Trackers as a group. The app also accepts VRChat HapticHub OSC messages. It does not set up an avatar or OSC on your behalf; see the separate VRChat setup guide for that.

## Configure a VRChat avatar for vibration

This is an **advanced manual setup** for an avatar creator or Unity editor. Watch the user-provided video first: [EXCap tracker haptics with the Haptic plugin](https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1m8QcBGEGF). The video follows the HapticHub + Modular Avatar style of setup. The menus may look different in a newer Unity or SDK version.

[EXCap tracker haptics with the Haptic plugin](https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1m8QcBGEGF)

 [Booth HapticHub](https://booth.pm/ja/items/5870024)

The short version is:

1. Open the avatar project in Unity with the VRChat SDK and the HapticHub/Modular Avatar packages installed. If you do not build avatars, send this section and the video to your avatar creator.
2. Add the HapticHub avatar package or the HapticHub MA quick setup to the avatar. Keep one vibration point for each Tracker position you want to use.
3. For a vibration point, create or select an empty object at the matching avatar bone. Start with **Left Foot** as the example. The current parameter name is `HapticHub/v1/LeftFoot`; older tutorials may say `LeftAnkle`.
4. Add a Contact Receiver to that point. Add the collider tags that should trigger it, usually **Hand** and **Foot**. Choose whether **Allow Self** and **Allow Others** should be on.
5. Set the receiver's trigger type to **Proximity** and enter the matching parameter, for example `HapticHub/v1/LeftFoot`. Add the same parameter to the avatar's **FX** layer. The HapticHub parameters do not need to be added to the synced parameter list.
6. Repeat for the other points you want to feel. Keep the names and left/right positions matched: `LeftFoot` goes to the left foot, `RightFoot` to the right foot, and so on.
7. Upload the avatar, wear the published version, enable OSC in VRChat, and start the HapticHub/Excap OSC path. In the haptic app, assign each physical Tracker to the same body position used by the avatar.
8. Test one point at a time. First test a self-trigger, then test an interaction from another avatar if **Allow Others** is enabled.

**If nothing vibrates:** check that **Haptic** is enabled in Excap, the Trackers are online, VRChat OSC is enabled from the Action Menu, the avatar is the published version, the HapticHub/OSC application is running, and the parameter name matches exactly. A Build &amp; Test avatar may not create the same OSC configuration as a published avatar, so publish before diagnosing the final path.

This manual Unity route is temporary documentation for the current product. We plan to add automatic avatar scanning and HapticHub configuration in Excap, so users will not need to add every parameter and receiver by hand. Do not treat that future automation as available in the current release.

# Tracker placement

**Placement** tells Excap which direction a Tracker faces on your body. It does not assign the Tracker to a body part. Use **Define** or **Auto Joint Binding** for body-part assignments.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-annotated-real-v2-sh">[![Annotated real v2 shell and new strap worn on the body; the power button is facing up.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/OJTimg-056-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/OJTimg-056-webp.webp)<figcaption>Annotated real v2 shell and new strap worn on the body; the power button is facing up. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## Before you change placement

Wear every Tracker with its power button **facing up**. The direction choices refer to **your body in Natural Standing**, not the side of the screen.

For the external camera in **Headset Mode**, wear Trackers on the front of your body so the camera can see Waist or Hip and both lower-leg marker lights. Side or back placement does not work with this camera route.

## Change a Tracker's facing direction

1. Open **Setting → Placement**.
2. Find the row with its assigned body part, such as **Waist**, **L Thigh** or **R Lower Leg**.
3. Select the direction that matches the way that Tracker is mounted on your body.
4. Repeat only for Trackers whose physical placement changed.

The current interface allows Front / Back for Head and Chest. Waist, Hip, thighs and lower legs also allow Left / Right. Arm Tracker directions are fixed on the outside in this interface.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-lower-scroll-placeme">[![Lower-scroll Placement view with complete fixed arm rows; original product layout and synthetic settings state.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-038-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-038-webp.webp)<figcaption>Lower-scroll Placement view with complete fixed arm rows; original product layout and synthetic settings state. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## Recalibrate after changing positions

Changing a placement clears the previous pose calibration. Take **Natural Standing** first, then **Skiing Pose**, before tracking again.

Back mounting changes the calibration basis for Chest, Hip and Waist by 180 degrees. If you select Back for one of those body parts, Excap asks you to confirm because it clears the previous calibration. Confirm only if that Tracker is physically worn on your back.

Do not change direction just to fix drift. Check that the Tracker is secure, its power button is up and the assigned body part matches where you wear it.

### Issue found while exploring

Some arm-placement direction circles are fixed. The display can make them look like controls that failed to respond. A visible explanation beside those rows would make the difference clear.

# Camera modes and shared setup

The camera Mode tells Excap how it receives and uses the external camera. You can choose a mode in **Setting → General → Camera → Mode**. The same mode menu is also available above **Camera View** in RP1.

These camera choices are different from the **Mocap** algorithm. Use the **Mocap** combobox on **RP1** to choose a motion algorithm; see [Tracker controls and status](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/tracker-controls-and-status). Use **Camera Mode** here to choose how the external camera connects.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-example-camera-mode-">[![Example Camera mode menu with Headset Mode selected; no camera connection is implied.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-028-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-028-webp.webp)<figcaption>Example Camera mode menu with Headset Mode selected; no camera connection is implied. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure><div class="table-scroll" id="bkmrk-modeconnectionwhat-t"><table><thead><tr><th>Mode</th><th>Connection</th><th>What the current app does</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>**Headset Mode**</td><td>2.4 GHz Wi-Fi after USB setup</td><td>Shows body marker points and applies camera yaw correction after Natural Standing is calibrated</td></tr><tr><td>**Desktop Mode**</td><td>USB cable direct to the PC</td><td>Shows raw camera marker points. </div>For a full-body session with the supplied camera, use [Headset Mode](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/headset-mode-camera-setup). Use [Desktop Mode](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/desktop-mode-camera-setup) to view raw points over USB. It does not currently replace Headset Mode for yaw correction.

## Understand the camera status

- **Cable Connected** means camera data is reaching the app over USB. Use this for Desktop Mode or to send Wi-Fi details.
- **Camera WiFi settings sent** means Excap wrote your network details to the camera while it was on USB.
- **Wi-Fi Online** means the app is receiving camera data over the network.
- **Camera Off** means camera input is disabled in the app.

The “sent” message is not the same as “online.” Check the status again after moving the camera to its Wi-Fi setup.

## What Camera View should look like

After the camera is online, open **RP1 → Camera View**. In Headset Mode, the view shows marker groups such as **Waist**, **L Lower Leg**, and **R Lower Leg**. This is a point view for camera tracking, not a normal webcam preview.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-headset-mode-camera-">[![Headset Mode Camera View, cropped as one contiguous native-scale panel from the app screen; points are scripted, no live camera or calibration implied.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-037-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-037-webp.webp)<figcaption>Headset Mode Camera View, cropped as one contiguous native-scale panel from the app screen; points are scripted, no live camera or calibration implied. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## Wi-Fi band needed by this kit

The supplied camera supports **2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only**. Check the network band before sending settings. The app currently lists 5 / 6 GHz networks and does not block an unsupported band, although the camera hardware cannot use those networks.

Current Camera settings can auto-fill the PC's active network, including a 5 / 6 GHz network. The field can still send it. A user sees “Camera WiFi settings sent” but may not know why the camera never reaches Wi-Fi Online. Excap should filter the list to 2.4 GHz or warn before sending an unsupported band. See the issue list.

# Headset Mode camera setup

Headset Mode attaches the supplied camera to your headset and uses **2.4 GHz Wi-Fi** to send the view to Excap. It is the camera mode used by the first-success guide.

## 1. Connect the camera to your PC over USB

Use the camera's USB data cable. Open **Setting → General → Camera** and wait for **Cable Connected**.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-example-camera-setti">[![Example camera settings form with blank credentials and a scripted Cable Connected status; no real hardware or network is shown.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/gT3img-031-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/gT3img-031-webp.webp)<figcaption>Example camera settings form with blank credentials and a scripted Cable Connected status; no real hardware or network is shown. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>**Ready when:** the camera status says Cable Connected. This means the app can send the Wi-Fi setup; it does not mean the wireless setup has completed.

## 2. Select Headset Mode and send 2.4 GHz details

1. Select **Headset Mode** in the Mode menu.
2. Select the router's **2.4 GHz** network. Check its displayed band before continuing.
3. Enter its Wi-Fi password if needed.
4. Click **Configure WiFi**.

**Ready when:** Excap says **Camera WiFi settings sent**. Wait until the camera later shows **Wi-Fi Online** before assuming it joined the network.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-example-camera-mode-">[![Example Camera mode menu with Headset Mode selected; no camera connection is implied.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/RjQimg-028-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/RjQimg-028-webp.webp)<figcaption>Example Camera mode menu with Headset Mode selected; no camera connection is implied. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>If the PC is connected to a 5 / 6 GHz-only network, do not use that network for this camera. Choose a 2.4 GHz network instead. The current app does not prevent an unsupported band from being sent.

## 3. Mount the camera and power it

Disconnect the temporary PC setup cable. Fit the camera to the headset with the supplied mount. Route the camera cable along the mount, then connect the other end to the power source specified for your kit.

The first picture shows where the cable plugs into the camera. The second picture shows the cable routed to the USB adapter attached to the headset. Do not use the temporary PC setup cable for this powered HMD connection.

**Ready when:** the status changes to **Wi-Fi Online**. If it stays offline, check that the camera has power and was given the 2.4 GHz network details.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-camera-cable-plugged">[![Camera cable plugged into the headset mount; refer to kit power instructions.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/xINimg-020-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/xINimg-020-webp.webp)<figcaption>Camera cable plugged into the headset mount; refer to kit power instructions. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure><figure class="" id="bkmrk-current-headset-came">[![Current headset camera mounted on the headset with the camera cable plugged into the headset-connected USB adapter.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/aGJimg-055-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/aGJimg-055-webp.webp)<figcaption>Current headset camera mounted on the headset with the camera cable plugged into the headset-connected USB adapter. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>## 4. Check the body marker lights

Open **RP1 → Camera View**. Aim the headset camera toward the front of your body. Move slightly so you can tell whether the points move.

**Ready when:** Camera View shows marker groups labeled **Waist** or **Hip**, **L Lower Leg**, and **R Lower Leg**. This view displays detected light points and connecting lines; it is not a regular webcam picture.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-headset-mode-camera-">[![Headset Mode Camera View, cropped as one contiguous native-scale panel from the app screen; points are scripted, no live camera or calibration implied.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/evoimg-037-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/evoimg-037-webp.webp)<figcaption>Headset Mode Camera View, cropped as one contiguous native-scale panel from the app screen; points are scripted, no live camera or calibration implied. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>Keep the Trackers on your body front with buttons facing up. When HMD Mode connects successfully, the Tracker assigned to **Waist or Hip** and both **lower-leg Trackers** turn green; the Chest, thigh and foot Tracker lights turn off. This is normal light selection for camera markers, not a Tracker disconnection. The eight-point layout uses either Waist or Hip, never both. Check the **Device** cards for the real connection state.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-annotated-hmd-mode-e">[![Annotated HMD Mode example: one Waist or Hip torso Tracker and both lower-leg Trackers are green; Chest, thighs and feet are off.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/sn0img-059-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/sn0img-059-webp.webp)<figcaption>Annotated HMD Mode example: one Waist or Hip torso Tracker and both lower-leg Trackers are green; Chest, thighs and feet are off. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>If the camera disconnects, the other Tracker lights return. Recheck **Wi-Fi Online** and the front-facing Waist/Hip and lower-leg placement before treating the light change as a fault.

## 5. Let camera correction start, or align it manually

Once **Natural Standing** is calibrated and fresh marker points are visible, Headset Mode can begin camera yaw correction automatically.

**Align Camera** is a separate manual adjustment. Use it when you intentionally want to record a camera reference:

1. Make sure the headset is online and Natural Standing and Skiing Pose are complete.
2. Keep a Waist/Hip or lower-leg marker visible.
3. In RP1, select **ALIGN CAMERA**.
4. Copy the C-Pose picture and hold still during the four-second count.

**Ready when:** Excap reports **Camera aligned**. Manual alignment needs a connected camera and a fresh Waist/Hip or lower-leg Tracker. If it fails, first confirm the markers and pose calibrations.

The normal camera workflow and manual reference step are different. Do not treat **Wi-Fi Online** as a camera-alignment result.

### Issues found while exploring

- The camera connects over USB, sends settings, then streams over Wi-Fi. The app shows these as separate states, but its Wi-Fi picker still allows unsupported 5 / 6 GHz selections.
- The supplied mount photograph shows the cable entering the camera, but not the cable's far end or a powered light/status. The power-source step needs a photo of the actual accessory included with the kit.

# Desktop Mode camera setup

**Desktop Mode was proposed after version 2.0.0 and is experimental. Use it at your own risk.** It is not part of the normal first-use route, and its behavior may change or fail in a future build.

Desktop Mode sends the camera image directly to the PC over USB. It does not need Wi-Fi.

## Quick test

1. Connect the camera to the PC with USB.
2. Open **Setting → General → Camera** and wait for **Cable Connected**.
3. Choose **Desktop Mode**.
4. Open **RP1 → Camera View** and aim the camera at the front-facing Tracker lights.

<figure class="" id="bkmrk-desktop-mode-camera-">[![Desktop Mode Camera View, cropped as one contiguous native-scale panel from the app screen; points are scripted, no live camera or calibration implied.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-036-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-036-webp.webp)<figcaption>Desktop Mode Camera View, cropped as one contiguous native-scale panel from the app screen; points are scripted, no live camera or calibration implied. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>The expected result is moving raw light points in Camera View. This is only a camera-view test. The current build does not run the Headset Mode yaw-correction path, and **Desktop Cali** / TIC is paused. Moving dots do not prove corrected full-body tracking.

For the supported full-body camera workflow, use [Headset Mode](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/books/excap-beginner-guide/page/headset-mode-camera-setup). If you try Desktop Mode, keep a recovery path available and do not use it as the first setup for a child or first-time user.

# Report a problem

Excap has two different feedback paths:

- Use **Help → Feedback** for a suggestion or general comment.
- Use the **Bug** button on the lower-right of **RP1** when a specific tracking problem happens.

## Method 1: send a diagnostic problem report

### 0. Check Diagnostic recording and saved/upload state

Open **Setting → General** and find **Diagnostic recording**. Check whether recording is enabled and whether **Saved diagnostic reports** contains an earlier report waiting to upload.

<figure class="figure-small" id="bkmrk-diagnostic-recording">[![Diagnostic recording storage and a saved report in Waiting to upload state; fixture data, no real report uploaded.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-065-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-065-webp.webp)<figcaption>Diagnostic recording storage and a saved report in Waiting to upload state; fixture data, no real report uploaded. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>### 1. Enable Diagnostic recording once

1. Open **Setting → General**.
2. Find **Diagnostic recording**.
3. Read the terms and choose **Agree and enable**.

<figure class="figure-small" id="bkmrk-annotated-diagnostic">[![Annotated Diagnostic recording terms: enable recording, review the terms, then choose Agree and enable; fixture state, no consent submitted.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-062-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-062-webp.webp)<figcaption>Annotated Diagnostic recording terms: enable recording, review the terms, then choose Agree and enable; fixture state, no consent submitted. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>With your permission, Excap keeps up to the latest three minutes of Tracker, HMD and controller data, calibration data, body and Avatar settings, algorithm settings, camera status and usage events. It does not record camera images, desktop video, passwords or network addresses. The snapshot is kept locally after Excap closes. Sending a report uploads it for R&amp;D troubleshooting; the terms shown by the app explain retention and access.

If you choose **Decline**, tracking still works, but the RP1 Bug button stays hidden.

### 2. Click Bug when the problem happens

1. Leave the problem visible if it is safe to do so.
2. Open **RP1** and click the **Bug** icon in the lower-right corner.

<figure class="figure-small" id="bkmrk-rp1-screenshot-with-">[![RP1 screenshot with the lower-right Bug button annotated; the button appears after Diagnostic recording consent.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-061-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-061-webp.webp)<figcaption>RP1 screenshot with the lower-right Bug button annotated; the button appears after Diagnostic recording consent. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>The Bug icon is beside the **Mocap** selector. It appears only after Diagnostic recording is enabled.

### 3. Describe and send the problem

Choose the closest tags, such as **Tracking lost**, **Drift / rotation**, **Camera calibration**, or **Wrong position**. Write what you were doing, the last step that worked and what changed just before the problem. Then click **Send report**.

<figure class="figure-small" id="bkmrk-report-a-problem-dia">[![Report a problem dialog with tags, optional details and Send report; fixture data, no report submitted.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-063-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-063-webp.webp)<figcaption>Report a problem dialog with tags, optional details and Send report; fixture data, no report submitted. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>After clicking **Send report**, return to Step 0 to confirm that the report was sent or is safely waiting to upload.

Do not put Wi-Fi passwords, personal contact details, or other private information in the description. If the upload cannot start, retry it from **Setting → General → Saved diagnostic reports**.

## Method 2: send general feedback

Open **Help** at the lower-left, then choose **Feedback**.

<figure class="figure-small" id="bkmrk-annotated-help-menu-">[![Annotated Help menu with the Feedback row highlighted; fixture state.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-064-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-064-webp.webp)<figcaption>Annotated Help menu with the Feedback row highlighted; fixture state. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>The Feedback window accepts a written message, optional contact information and up to four images. Use it for ideas, feature requests, documentation comments or anything that does not need motion diagnostics.

<figure class="figure-small" id="bkmrk-feedback-window-with">[![Feedback window with message, optional contact and image attachment fields; fixture state, no feedback submitted.](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-067-webp.webp)](https://wiki.elecholic.tech/uploads/images/gallery/2026-10/scaled-1680-/img-067-webp.webp)<figcaption>Feedback window with message, optional contact and image attachment fields; fixture state, no feedback submitted. · Open image at original size.</figcaption></figure>Write the message first; **Submit Feedback** becomes available after the text field is no longer empty. Adding an email or Discord name is optional.

For a short report, use this pattern:

&gt; I was doing **\[step\]**. The last thing that worked was **\[check\]**. Then I saw **\[message/result\]**. It happened **\[once/every time\]** after **\[change, if any\]**.
