Connect EXCAP to Game
This book explains how to connect EXCAP to different VR platforms and games. Choose the connection method that matches your headset and setup.
Connect with SteamVR
This chapter explains how to install Steam and SteamVR, launch Excap Studio in SteamVR mode, verify that your trackers are recognized, and troubleshoot common connection problems.
Install Steam and SteamVR
- Download and install the latest version of Steam from the official Steam website.
- Open Steam, then find and install SteamVR.
- Start SteamVR. You need SteamVR running to send all tracking data from Excap Studio into PCVR.
📝 Note: Make sure your VR headset is already connected and streaming to SteamVR before you start Excap Studio.
Start Excap Studio
Download and install the latest version of Excap Studio, then launch it.
By default, all data transmission is turned off when Excap Studio starts. We recommend selecting the transmission mode only after all trackers are connected correctly. Choose the data mode in the top-right corner of the window.
The SteamVR window will show your connected headset and 6 trackers.
📝 Note: Only 6 trackers are shown in SteamVR because of a limitation in the SteamVR driver itself. The other trackers are still tracked internally by Excap Studio.
Troubleshooting
- SteamVR must be fully initialized and your headset must be connected to SteamVR before you click Connect in Excap Studio.
- If the trackers do not appear or behave incorrectly in SteamVR, click Connect in Excap Studio again. You can also disconnect and then reconnect.
- If SteamVR crashes or freezes, restart Excap Studio after SteamVR has fully closed.
⚠️ Warning: Restarting Excap Studio is usually required after a SteamVR crash. Simply restarting SteamVR alone may not restore the tracker connection.

Connect with SlimeVR
This chapter shows you how to connect your EXCAP trackers to the SlimeVR ecosystem. You will install the SlimeVR Server, route EXCAP data through Excap Studio, and then complete the remaining setup inside SlimeVR.
Download and Install SlimeVR
SlimeVR is currently the largest open-source full-body tracking platform for VR. It provides a rich and convenient way to connect FBT devices. You can download and install SlimeVR Server v0.13.2 from GitHub.
📝 Note: Use the linked version unless you have a specific reason to use a newer release. Different versions may have different setup steps.
Start Excap Studio
Download and install the latest version of Excap Studio from the Elecholic downloads page, then launch it.
By default, all data transmission is turned off at startup. We recommend selecting the data transmission mode only after all trackers are connected correctly. Choose the data mode in the top-right corner of the window.
💡 Tip: Make sure all eight trackers are powered on and listed in Excap Studio before switching to SlimeVR mode.
After Connecting
Once the connection to SlimeVR is established, 8 trackers will appear in the SlimeVR Server. This usually takes about 10 seconds.
In this mode, Excap Studio acts only as a data router: it sends tracker data to SlimeVR. All further setup and calibration must be done inside SlimeVR. Follow the official SlimeVR documentation for configuration instructions.
✅ Good to know: No additional settings are required in Excap Studio after the SlimeVR connection is active. If something is wrong, check SlimeVR’s tracker configuration first.

Connect with Standalone
This chapter covers how to use EXCAP with a standalone headset such as Meta Quest or Pico. You will select Standalone mode in Excap Studio, optionally enter your headset’s IP address, and enable OSC inside VRChat.
Select Standalone Mode
In Excap Studio, click the Standalone button in the top-right corner.
📝 Note: Standalone mode sends tracking data to VRChat over OSC instead of through SteamVR. Make sure your headset and PC are on the same local network.
OSC Setting (Optional)
If Excap Studio cannot detect your headset’s IP address automatically, enter it manually.
- Click OSC Setting.
- Type the headset’s IP address, then confirm.
💡 Tip: You can usually find your headset’s IP address in the Wi-Fi settings menu of the standalone headset.
Enable OSC in VRChat
In VRChat, open the settings and turn on the OSC switch.
⚠️ Warning: If OSC is disabled in VRChat, Excap Studio cannot send tracking data to your avatar, even if the connection shows as active.
Check That It Works
Move your legs in front of a mirror (or ask a friend to watch your avatar). If your avatar's legs move with you in VRChat, you're all set! 🎉 If not, double-check the OSC switch above and make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
